International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race, January 30 - February 07, 2009
Description: The International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race (IPSSSDR) comes to Wyoming in late January/early February each year. A qualifying event for the Iditarod, the IPSSSDR hosts 30 champion teams from France, Japan, Canada and the U.S. competing for the race's $100,000 purse, and traveling nearly 500 miles through Wyoming's backcountry for 11 days. The race has attracted world-class mushers including Jeff King, Alaska; Bruce Lee, Alaska; Jacque Phillip, France; Hans Gatt, Austria; Dan MacEachen, Colorado; Rick Swenson, Alaska; and Susan Butcher, Alaska. Pinedale and Big Piney/Marbleton each host a day of activities. Watch the race start and finish, enjoy a reception with the mushers, catch a doggie fashion show and more. NEW THIS YEAR - the Pinedale stage will start downtown next to the Visitor Center!
